AmeriCarnival: a Dirty American Roots Barnstorm! – a multimedia Americana spectacular from Vaudeville to the Barbary Coast to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, featuring world-class bands Supermule, Three Times Bad (CD release!) & the Naked Bootleggers; stunning dancers Kellita (Hot Pink Feathers showgirl extraordinaire), Dixie DeLish ("the Burlesque Outlaw") & Krysta Cook (bellydance fusion pioneer); and one-of-a-kind urban jesters JD Limelight (Lifesize Mousetrap) & Spunky Brewster (Fou Fou Ha).
Ticket $15 Doors 8 pm, Show 9 pm
SUPERMULE raids America’s musical pantry to concoct a fresh blend of rootsy ingredients. Liberal amounts of jazz, bluegrass, classical, and rock are used in varying proportions. One song is a thick, rich gumbo; the next is fluffier than Grandma’s buttermilk biscuits. The fruitful collaboration between members belies that old saw about too many cooks in the kitchen. Mixing traditional bluegrass instruments like banjo, guitar, and fiddle with keyboards, drums, and horns, the band explores a hybrid music that’s both traditional and revolutionary, channeling the innovative spirit of the pioneers of American music. SUPERMULE has thrilled audiences at top venues and festivals (Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, SF Bluegrass & Old Time, Folkish Fest) throughout the Bay Area.
Three Times Bad is "a hot new San Francisco string [band] born from the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed, transmedia novel ‘badbadbad’" (Hood River News) by bandleader Jesus Angel Garcia. The group plays "dirty American roots music" (The Register-Guard) on acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass. In the great folk tradition, everyone sings. Think: "Epic moustaches and bent bluegrass" (The Source Weekly), backwoods blues, outlaw country, hillbilly swing, Appalachian rags, Gypsy jazz, old-time gospel, murder ballads, honkytonk, folk songs, and hot singalongs. This regional touring ensemble has performed all over California and the PacNW, including multiple appearances at the Ink n Iron Festival in Long Beach and the Humboldt Hills Hoedown. Three Times Bad celebrates the release of its debut CD, American Sojourn, at this special AmeriCarnival event.
