Please join us for the April Vernon Salon! Alisa Rose and Amy Zanrosso are two expressive and powerful musicians intent on exploring what it means to be a piano and violin duo making music in the 21st century. Striking and dramatic in their musical choices, the RossoRose duo seamlessly melds their classical training with the rhythms and musical freedom of a variety of traditions that include tango and American roots music and are not shy about breaking rules in order to communicate with an audience. Visual artist Victoria Welling will also be speaking, continuing our talk from February about women in the arts.

Feel free to show up starting at 8 PM, and we'll begin the performance around 8:30 PM. As a warning - parking is often tricky in the Adams Point (Oakland) neighborhood, so allow for extra time. 

Prokofiev Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano:
Want to hear a half hour of music that's brooding and aggressive but so painfully beautiful at times that it makes you wonder what you’ve done with your life up to this point? Then Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano in F minor is for you. Written during the second World War, this sonata is filled with pianistic explosions, relentless approaching armies, abject terror, nostalgia for better days and a violin whistling like “wind passing through a graveyard.” Of all the music Prokofiev composed, the first and third movements of this sonata were chosen to be performed at his funeral - that’s how good this sonata is. If you’ve never heard it before you need to hear it now!
